ABOUT THE POET
Jessica’s unique brand of poetry has roots in northern Minnesota, and many of her works vividly describe the special land and waterscapes of Duluth, where she spent much of her developmental years. In 2010, Jessica moved to Nashville, Tennessee, and still resides there, creating new poems all the time that detail her ongoing and relatable story.
Jessica’s mission in writing poetry and telling her story is to connect with others who resonate with her message. She seeks to empower her audience to be their authentic selves, and to continue to rise to meet life’s challenges. She aims to show how the pain of her own life has helped her to grow and evolve, and how the trials and tribulations of her own journey can carve a path for others to heal from their past traumas and move forward with courage.
THE DETOUR LIFE
A DECADE IN THE MAKING
The Detour Life is a collection of poetry written between 2010 and 2020, exploring themes from a female perspective of coming-of-age romantic love, the struggles of navigating adult life in the modern era, and abstract concepts exploring the dark beauty of nature. In her first collection of published works, Jessica Befera’s poetry captures both heart-wrenching feelings of longing for both a physical and spiritual home, as well as a bright resilience in the face of uncertainty, fear, and heartbreak.
